What made you choose UMD for graduate school?
There aren't too many universities with a center for quantum computing and information, and luckily UMD has one of the best. In QuICS, I found several professors and fellows that had research topics I could see myself working on. Hopefully I'll get to work with you in some regard during my time here at UMD!
Why did you choose computer science as your field of study?
I did my undergrad in software engineering, so almost computer science. I enjoyed coding, but figured out that I wasn't going to be satisfied in a software development type of role. Luckily, I found myself doing research in quantum computing, and that ended any software engineering aspirations. Additionally, the courses I took on the theory of computation further pushed me to the computer science side.
What are your plans post-graduation?
A job in industry or government, maybe a National Lab.
What are your hobbies?
I spend most of my free time rock climbing or training for it (if you want a training partner, let me know!). I also enjoy playing my saxophone and flute, mostly in a jazz big band setting.
